Trainees
UTDRO New Physics Residents 2025

We are excited to welcome our four newest residents to the 2025 cohort of the Medical Physics Residency Program.

(Started in Winter 2025)

Headshot of Amandeep Bains

Dr. Amandeep Bains

Dr. Amandeep Bains hold PhD degree in theoretical physics from Guru Nanak Dev University Amritsar, India. He completed a CAMPEP-accredited M.Sc. in Clinical Medical Physics from Western University, London Ontario. He has acquired relevant clinical experience working as Junior Medical Physicist at New Mexico Cancer Center, Albuquerque USA. Recently he joined UTDRO medical physics residency at Stronach Regional Cancer Centre, Newmarket.

(Started in Fall 2025)

Headshot of Simon Dobri

Dr. Simon Dobri

Dr. Simon Dobri completed his PhD at the University of Toronto, under the supervision of Dr. Bernhard Ross. He used magnetoencephalograpy and magnetic resonance spectroscopy to study the neural mechanisms underlying speech-in-noise loss in aging. Simon loves making music and spending time outdoors canoeing, hiking, and camping.

Aly Khalifa

Dr. Aly Khalifa

Dr. Aly Khalifa completed his PhD at University of Toronto's Department of Medical Biophysics under the supervision of Dr. Chris McIntosh and Dr. Tom Purdie. His thesis investigated the use of machine learning automated treatment planning to standardize and increase the efficiency of adaptive radiation therapy treatments. Outside of work, Aly enjoys learning to cook recipes from different cuisines and exploring new spots in Toronto. He is looking forward to joining the Princess Margaret team.

Headshot of Liam Lawrence

Dr. Liam Lawrence

Dr. Liam Lawrence completed his PhD at the University of Toronto in the Department of Medical Biophysics. His thesis project was supervised by Dr. Angus Lau and focused on using diffusion-weighted imaging on MRI-linear accelerators to guide radiotherapy of glioblastoma. Outside of work, he enjoys reading, running, and spending time with friends and family. He is excited to be doing his residency at Sunnybrook Odette Cancer Centre.

Headshot of Ronan Lefol

Dr. Ronan Lefol

Dr. Ronan Lefol is originally from France and grew up in Saskatoon, SK. Following an MSc in Nuclear Physics, he completed his PhD in Medical Physics at Université Laval, Québec - focusing on personalized dose calculation for CT acquisitions. He is excited to join the team at Sunnybrook and explore new dining and walking spots throughout Toronto.
