Academic Appointment Request
Requests for Academic Appointments are accepted on a rolling basis.
Requests will be considered for candidates who make a significant contribution to the work of the University of Toronto’s Department of Radiation Oncology (UTDRO) through education, research, and/or creative professional activities.
Appointments will be considered at the level of Instructor, Lecturer, or Assistant Professor. Criteria outlined below.

Criteria for Initial Appointment: Instructor
Appointments are given at the level of Instructor to individuals who are qualified at the Bachelor’s level and have a minimum of two years relevant experience.
An instructor is expected to be involved in ongoing engagement in at least one academic activity (teaching, clinical supervision/education, scholarly activity, or creative professional activities), normally for the equivalent of .10 FTE. If a regulated professional, the individual must be a registrant in good standing of her/his provincial regulatory body. It is expected that individual will be a member of the appropriate provincial/national professional association.
Criteria for Initial Appointment: Lecturer
Appointments are given at the level of Lecturer to individuals who are qualified at the Master’s level normally with a minimum of three years relevant experience.
A Lecturer is expected to be involved in ongoing engagement in at least two academic activities (teaching, clinical supervision/education, scholarly activity, or creative professional activities), at the equivalent of .10 FTE. If a regulated professional, the individual must be a registrant in good standing of her/his provincial regulatory body. It is expected that individual will be a member of the appropriate provincial/national professional association.
Criteria for Initial Appointment: Assistant Professor
Appointments are given at the level of Assistant Professor to individuals who have completed a recognized graduate program (or advanced training experience deemed to be equivalent to a Master’s level program) and have demonstrated independent of scholarly activities through at least five published peer-reviewed publications and grant support at the time of request for appointment.
An Assistant Professor is expected to be involved in ongoing engagement in at least two academic activities (teaching, clinical supervision/education, independent scholarly activity, or creative professional activities).
Criteria for Reappointment:
For reappointment to UTDRO, a faculty member must demonstrate ongoing and continued engagement to the academic mission of the Department. In addition, an individual must:
- Demonstrate the core values of respect, civility, and professionalism.
- Be a member in good standing of her/his appropriate provincial licensing body and should be a member of the appropriate provincial/national professional association.
- Have demonstrated continuous and direct involvement across most areas involving teaching, clinical fieldwork/education supervision and instruction, scholarly activity, and/or service to the University.
- Where appropriate, have supervised students in each of the last three consecutive academic years, or presented with consistent, positive evaluations from students for excellence in their role as Teacher.
