New Radiation Oncology Residents 2021

We had another very successful CaRMS Match on April 20, 2021.

Please join us in welcoming the following medical students to our program who will become PGY1 residents as of July 1, 2021.

This year the interviews were completely virtual with many strong and engaged candidates. Our sincerest congratulations and best wishes to these outstanding individuals that have matched with our program.

Hannah Bacon Radiation Oncology Resident

Hannah Bacon

Hannah completed her undergraduate degree in Integrated Science with a major in Physics at McMaster University. She then moved to Kingston for an MD/PhD at Queen’s University. During her PhD in Chemical Engineering, Hannah developed microscale sensors for the detection of biochemical molecules in fluid systems.

In her spare time, Hannah enjoys running, hiking, cross‐country skiing, and playing piano. Hannah grew up in Toronto, and is thrilled to return home and join the team at UTDRO!

Kevin Fan Radiation Oncology Resident

Kevin Fan

Originally from Toronto, Kevin completed his Bachelor of Medical Sciences with an Honours Thesis in Biochemistry at Western University. He studied medicine in Vancouver at the University of British Columbia. Kevin has been involved in clinical prognostic tool development at BC Cancer, as well as biomarker discovery within the Personalized Onco‐Genomics (POG) project. His educational interests include AI in medicine curriculum design and clinician‐scientist career development. Outside of medicine, he enjoys hiking, trying new foods, playing music, and martial arts.

Kevin looks forward to developing his skills in providing team‐based patient‐centred care, being involved in translational projects with clinically meaningful endpoints, and meeting everybody at UTDRO!

UTDRO George Li Radiation Oncology Resident

George Li

George is a Toronto native and grew up in Etobicoke. He completed his Bachelor of Science at U of T with a Specialist in Microbiology and Major in Human Biology, before continuing on at U of T to pursue medical school. He became interested in Radiation Oncology in his first year of medical school after attending a simulated contouring session run by UTDRO residents. He is honoured to now be able to join UTDRO as a resident, where he hopes to collaborate with faculty members and other trainees to continue developing his interests in education and biostatistics.

Outside of medicine, George enjoys hiking in the summer, snowboarding in the winter, and flight simulation when he is at home. He also loves to explore different styles of fried chicken, and is always on the lookout for new options to try. He is looking forward to spending the next five years working with his patients and the UTDRO family!

UTDRO Fasila Johri Radiation Oncology Resident

Fasila Johri

Fasila is an International Medical Graduate of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland – Medical University of Bahrain. Born and raised within the GTA, she decided to venture off to Bahrain to study medicine. She describes this opportunity as a blessing as she was immediately immersed within the culture of Bahrain.

Fasila completed her undergraduate degree in nursing at York University.  Registered Nurse turned Medical Doctor, Fasila has always had a passion for oncology and is beyond thrilled to begin her career in Radiation Oncology. She learned that patients in oncology and their families have been some of the most humble humans to be around. Despite their diagnoses, they are so full of life and, in turn, become the teachers to doctors regarding values in life.

Fasila enjoys taking part in mentorship and teaching opportunities. In medical school she demonstrated this in her active roles with the Student Council and the North American Medical Students Association where she founded and led projects such as the mentorship program, mock exams, and board exam preparatory courses. While obtaining her degree abroad, Fasila was able to travel, explore, and eat her way through countries in the Middle East. If ever you find yourself in Bahrain, she recommends you go get yourself a russi from Al Jabriya with “pickles and less fries” because you won’t be sorry! Fasila is a lover of cake and will travel far and wide to try the best. She welcomes recommendations for the finest bakeries in the GTA.

UTDRO Faisal Alfadli Radiation Oncology Resident

Faisal Alfadli

Faisal was born and raised in Kuwait and completed his medical education at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. He then moved from Ireland to the United Kingdom for his masters in science at UCL. It was there where he developed his passion for radiation oncology and an interest in nanoparticle systems for both the diagnosis and treatment of various cancers.

He prides himself on his work ethic, organization, supporting his colleagues, and ruining serious moments with a poorly timed joke. On that note, he is a fan of all things video game related, and Pokémon may very well be the quickest way to his heart. He loves music of all genres (and knows the lyrics to more embarrassing songs than one should admit), anything history related, and traveling and exploring new places.

Faisal is looking forward to an exciting residency at the University of Toronto, and cannot wait to meet all the brilliant minds at UTDRO!
