Dr. Anil Tibdewal, previously a Clinical Research Fellow at Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH) through UTDRO’s fellowship program, had multiple high-profile roles as faculty and speaker at the World Conference on Lung Cancer (WCLC) 2023 in Singapore from September 9-12.
During his tenure as a UTDRO fellow in Toronto from 2016 to 2017, Dr. Tibdewal acquired clinical expertise in lung and completed the research project under the guidance of Dr. Andrea Bezjak and Dr. Alex Sun. He is currently serving as an Associate Professor in Radiation Oncology at Tata Memorial Hospital in India.
Using his learned expertise from our fellowship program, Dr. Tibdewal was able to play pivotal roles throughout the WCLC event. One of the highlights was his Talk on "Precision Management of Oligometastatic Disease" in the Plenary session titled "Transforming Discovery into Treatments in Lower Middle-Income Regions". Dr Tibdewal stepped in when his senior colleague Prof JP Agarwal (Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai) was unable to present at WCLC. He made his colleagues at Tata and at UTDRO proud by delivering a thoughtful and stimulating talk that provided many examples of progress being made in India and other less-resourced regions in Asia, and sent a message of hope for progress despite potential obstacles. The talk resonated strongly with the audience and gained high praise on social media platforms.
Alongside his Plenary Talk, Dr. Tibdewal played key roles as faculty and speaker in multiple sessions. This included acting as a mentor in the Radiation Oncology Contouring Workshop, delivering an engaging talk on SBRT Lung with a specific focus on “Organs at Risk,” chairing a session on “Advances in the Management of Bone Metastases in De Novo Oligometastatic Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer,” and presenting a poster in the Clinical Trial in Progress category titled "Observation or Upfront Cranial RT in Oncogene Driver Mutated NSCLC with Asymptomatic Brain Metastases: A Phase III Randomized Controlled Trial." His contributions were highly valued not only by UTDRO community but also the wider medical community.
Training at Princess Margret Hospital (PMH) made me confident and strengthen my knowledge about Lung Radiation Oncology. I am so grateful to the entire Radiation Oncology team of PMH for their continued guidance and support especially Dr. Bezjak and Dr. Sun.Dr. Anil Tibdewal
