Recent Achievements by UT DRO Faculty

Congratulations to the following faculty on their recent achievements. Our faculty are among the leaders in the field of radiation medicine, and we are proud of the calibre of work that they produce. Congratulations to all.

Stanley Liu
Dr. Liu won a Prostate Cancer - Movember Discovery Grant valued at $200,000 for his study titled "microRNA and prostate cancer radiation response."

Arjun Sahgal
Dr. Arjun Sahgal's study titled “Vertebral compression fracture after stereotactic body radiotherapy for spinal metastases”  was recently published in The Lancet Oncology.

Dr. Sahgal's paper titled "Individual Patient Data (IPD) Meta-Analysis of Randomized Controlled Trials (RCT) Comparing Stereotactic Radiosurgery Alone (SRS) to SRS Plus Whole Brain Radiotherapy (WBRT) in Patients with Brain Metastasis" was showcased in the Press Program for ASTRO's 55th Annual Meeting, where he also presented the study.

Edward Chow
Dr. Chow recently presented his study titled "Response and Quality of Life (QoL) Outcomes in a Randomized Trial of Single vs. Multiple Fractions (Fx) for Re-Irradiation (RE-RT) of Painful Bone Metastases (PBM)" at ASTRO's 55th Annual Meeting in Atlanta, and at ASCO's Annual Meeting in Chicago.

Caroline Chung
Dr. Chung's proposal “Randomized Phase II Study: Corticosteroids + Bevacizumab vs. Corticosteroids + Placebo for Radionecrosis after Radiosurgery for Brain Metastases” has been selected as the recipient of an Alliance Scholar Award from the Alliance for Clinical Trials in Oncology Foundation.

Lee Manchul
Congratulations to Lee who is the new chair of the Faculty of Medicine Faculty Council Continuing Education Committee. Lee is now a member of the Faculty Council and its Executive Committee.

Lisa had two co-presentations at the MASCC/ISOO International Symposium on Supportive Care in Cancer in Germany "Designing and testing of a new radiation therapy patient supportive care screening tool" and "Identifying and addressing the unmet supportive care needs of radiation therapy patients in radiation therapy treatment settings: a role for radiation therapists."

Congratulations to this team on their presentation titled "Exploring Attitudes of Canadian Radiation Oncologists, Radiation Therapists and Physicists towards Interprofessional Teaching and Learning" at the recent meeting of Collaborating Across Borders IV (CAB IV) - Transformative Change from the Classroom to Practice in Vancouver.

Dr. Sahgal was not only the chair of the 11th International Stereotactic Radiosurgery Society Congress, he also presented his study "The impact of treating multiple consecutive vertebrae as a single volume with spine SBRT on positional accuracy" at this meeting.
