On Monday, October 19th, 2015 we were proud to host our 6th Annual Alumni Reception at ASTRO in San Antonio, TX. These events are important to us, allowing us to reconnect with our friends and colleagues from near and far. Almost 150 people were able to attend this year’s event, and the engaged conversations throughout the course of the evening at a testament to the strong connections of our community.
At our previous Alumni Reception, we celebrated the vision and leadership of our Inaugural Chair, Dr. Bernard J. Cummings, by announcing the establishment of the BJ Cummings Award for Research Excellence. This award celebrates a trainee who has demonstrated sustained excellence in Radiation Medicine research. We were pleased to announce the first recipient of this award at our San Antonio Alumni Reception, which is Dr. Danielle Rodin.
Dr. Rodin is currently one of the Assistant Chief Residents in the UT-DRO Residency Program, and has a sustained successful track record in a spectrum of research endeavours, ranging from clinical studies to global health, including 4 recent publications on global access to radiotherapy or surgery in Lancet Oncology. It was with a heavy heart that we took a moment to remember the passing of a dear member of our community: Dr. Pamela Catton. Pam was an outstanding educator, clinician, and colleague. She was devoted to supporting all those with whom she came into contact, and virtually everyone who spent any time in UT-DRO has been touched by Pam in a very positive way.
In honour of Pam and her many achievements, The Pamela Catton Award for Inter-Professional Education (IPE) and Care was created. This award will recognize individuals who have demonstrated significant innovations in IPE in clinical care and education. Anyone wishing to support Pam’s legacy through this award, contributions can be made through the following link: www.donate.utoronto.ca/utdro
These events are incredibly important to UT-DRO and we are always pleased to see such a turn out. You can relive some of the highlights through our video of the evening: https://youtu.be/qy5AGwpodKo
Mark your calendars now for Monday, September 26th, 2016 for our 7th Annual Alumni Reception in Boston. This will be particularly eventful as we will be celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Department of Radiation Oncology at the University of Toronto!
