Meet UTDRO's New Fellows

I graduated from medical school at Sohag University in 2006, then had a one-year rotation internship in Sohag University hospital. I finished my residency program in the Clinical Oncology Department of Sohag University Hospital in 2011, completed my master degree in 2012 and my Ph.D  in 2019. I also had a two-year fellowship in the Radiation Oncology Department of the Michigan University Hospital, where my research was focusing mainly on prostate cancer. Now I am a Clinical Oncologist & Lecturer of Clinical Oncology at Sohag University, Sohag, Egypt. I enjoy travelling, seeing new places and learning from different cultures 

I graduated from King Saud University, MBBS in 2010 with a Second Honor degree. I then started the Neurosurgery training program at Dalhousie University from 2011 to 2014. I spent 6 months of training at the Radiation Oncology program at Dalhousie University before switching my residency and starting at the McGill Radiation Oncology program in July 2015. I completed my training in February 2019. On May 2, 2019 I passed my Royal College examination in radiation oncology. I enjoy travelling, skiing and running.

Dr. Piero Bettoli is a graduate from University of Valparaiso medical school (Chile), where he completed his studies with distinction. He trained as a radiation oncologist at Pontifical Catholic University of Santiago (Chile) also successfully. During his residency he was able to provide care to patients from the public health system and has been recognized not only for his professional and technical skills but also for his friendly manner and warm personality with colleagues, other health care personnel and patients.

Dr. Bettoli has been working since 2015 in the Department of Radiation Oncology at Fundación Arturo López Pérez, the biggest nonprofit cancer center in Chile, as a leader of the uro-oncology and Head and Neck programs. Most of his work has been focused in overseeing  the transition from providing 3D radiation therapy to providing IGRT-IMRT to all urologic and head and neck cancers. He also started a SBRT program for prostate cancer with prospective quality of life collection and articulated a well integrated multidisciplinary team for head and neck cancer patients, both projects are the first of their kind in the country.

Currently, he´s starting a Uro Oncology Clinical Fellowship at Princess Margaret Hospital in Toronto (Canada) with the aim of improving his knowledge and technical skills in this area so he can go back to Chile and put into practice all the experience learned at this worldwide recognized cancer center.

Matthew Chan

Born in British Columbia, Canada. I have a lovely wife and two-year old son. I enjoy trying new foods, experiencing difference cultures, and being in the outdoors. 

I’m from a city in Quebec where winter is long and freezing, where we ski, skate and play ice hockey. I went to medical school in my hometown, Saguenay, and did my residency in radiation oncology in Quebec City at Université Laval. I’m seriously involved in the teaching and evaluation of medical students. I’m passionate about communications. I have a special interest in pediatric cancers, lymphomas and oncogeriatrics. After my fellowship, I will practice in a teaching hospital of Quebec City, treating pediatric cancers, lymphomas and breast cancer in a team of twenty radiation oncologists. In my free time, I like reading, going to theater, cinema, playing tennis, spending time with my friends and shopping local designers.  

Dr Shivakumar Gudi is a medical graduate from Father Muller Medical College, Mangalore, India. He completed his postgraduate studies (MD) in Radiation Oncology from the prestigious Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai, India in 2015. He subsequently has gained work experience in the same institute as senior registrar and research fellow in the department of radiation oncology. He is known for his calm and composed personality and conscientious problem-solving approach. His areas of special interests are Head & Neck Oncology, Gynaecologic Oncology, GI Oncology, Brachytherapy and Advanced Radiotherapy Techniques. He is also involved in clinical research and has some of the research publications in these areas. While not at work, he enjoys adventure sports, road trips and listening to music.

Enrique is a Radiation Oncologist who has graduated from the University of Guadalajara. Since March 2018 he has been a part of the Medical Unit of High Specialty team at Western National Medical Center, (Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social, IMSS) University of Guadalajara. Enrique was born and raised in Guadalajara, Jalisco. At 18 years old, his best friend was diagnosed with osteosarcoma. His sad and untimely passing lead him to the realize he wanted to study medicine. He graduated from the University of Guadalajara in 2012. In 2013 Enrique received the highest score in the national assessment of Mexico as he applied for the residency in Radiation Oncology. He was named Chief Resident of the Radiation Oncology department at IMSS, receiving a scholarship to stay abroad for three months during his final year of residency. In Canada, he found a great opportunity at Princess Margaret Hospital, the Odette Cancer Centre in Toronto and the Ottawa Hospital for a three-month observation program. In 2017. It was such an enriching experience that it changed his life, finalizing his decision as to the direction he wished to pursue career-wise.

He is currently the youngest staff member in the Central Nervous System and the Head and Neck clinic. He is also an adjunct professor of Radiation Oncology at the University of Guadalajara. As a Radiation Oncologist, he is interested in scientific research and cutting edge treatments in the areas of the central nervous system and brain metastasis
His main commitment is to improve the life of cancer patients, by administering the latest methods of treatment. To that end, he strives to better his knowledge of what current research and developments in the field may offer. He is currently eager to move forward with his fellowship at the esteemed Princess Margaret Hospital in Toronto, Canada.

Dr. Revathy Krishnamurthy completed her graduation in medicine from the Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences, a rural medical college catering to the underserved located in Wardha, India.  After engaging in voluntary work, serving mainly in urban slums of Mumbai, she decided to further her education by getting a postgraduate degree (MD) in Radiation Oncology from the Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai, India. After MD, she worked as a Senior Resident in Radiation Oncology at the same institute for 2 years involved in extensive clinical work, research and post-graduate teaching.

Her areas of special interests are Women’s Cancers, Quality of Life studies, Brachytherapy, Particle Beam therapy and Integrative Oncology. Her principal goal is to accomplish holistic care of cancer patients. Dr Revathy also finds time to volunteer with the NGO, International Association for Human Values (IAHV).  She has been meditating every day for the past 10 years which allows her to escape stress. She is also a trained classical singer, enjoys reading and solo-travel.
 

I graduated from the Royal College of Surgeons (RCSI) Medical School in Dublin, Ireland in 2010 having previously completed a 4 year science degree and full-time Masters degree in Molecular Medicine in Trinity College, Dublin.

My postgraduate medical training initially consisted of 3 years of hospital-based medical training in Medicine. I then successfully interviewed for higher specialist training in Radiation Oncology, a 5-year training program in the St Luke’s Radiation Oncology Network and in Galway University Hospital. I successfully completed this and was awarded Fellowship of the Faculty of Radiologists (FFR RCSI) in the RCSI and received my specialist training certificate from the Irish Medical Council in October 2018. 

I spent a further 6 months in the St Luke’s Radiation Oncology Network as Chief Registrar before I moving to Cork City, Ireland in January 2019 to take a temporary Staff post in Cork University Hospital. There I worked in Thoracic, Head and Neck and Breast Radiation Oncology for 5 months before travelling to Toronto to work as a Clinical Fellow with the Thoracic Team in the Radiation Oncology Medicine Program, Princess Margaret Cancer Centre.

I’m greatly looking forward to using this Fellowship to meet many new people in the University Hospital Network and beyond, an exciting opportunity to live and learn more about Canada!
 

Conrad Josef Q. Villafuerte or CJ is a 32 year old, single, radiation oncologist from the Philippines. He is part of the pioneer batch of MD-MBA class of the Ateneo School of Medicine and Public Health in 2012. He is also the first graduate of the radiation oncology residency program of The Medical City (TMC) in 2017.

After graduation, CJ became a consultant for several hospitals while also teaching at his alma mater. He also took up administrative work such as heading the service clinic and coordinating the general oncology conference of TMC. This is CJ’s way of serving society by contributing to healthcare and inspiring future physician leaders.

CJ believes in maintaining a good work-life balance and being multi-faceted. He assumes diverse roles in his endeavors to keep him engaged, allow him to develop skills and collaborate and connect with other people.

CJ is also a sports fan, especially basketball. He enjoys watching movies and TV series including anime, listening to music, particularly pop and reading books in the genre of history, science fiction, fantasy and even mangas.

I qualified as a Radiation Oncologist at the University of Cape Town, South Africa at the end of 2018. After working as a family physician in Saskatchewan, Canada for 7 years I returned to Cape Town for my specialist training. I have returned to Canada now, my “second home” to further my interests in CNS and Urology. I am married with two children.
