Princess Margaret team receives Innovation Award

We are delighted to announce that Princess Margaret Cancer Centre‘s Radiation Medicine team, led by Tony Fyles, Grace Lee, and Tom Purdie, were the recipients of an Innovation Award from the Cancer Quality Council of Ontario (CQCO) for the “QuickStart Program: Same-Day Radiotherapy for Early Stage Breast Cancer”.

This globally-unique program facilitates rapid access for our breast cancer patients, such that their radiotherapy can start on the same day as the Radiation Oncology consultation. Implemented in 2010, the QuickStart initiative brings together technological advances in software with clinical expertise to expedite scans, treatment planning and delivery of the first treatment, all within one day. The QuickStart program is now a standard treatment option offered to women with early-stage breast cancer.
