UT-DRO professor Laura Dawson has been named one of the ten Fellows of the American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) for 2016.
Through the Fellows of ASTRO designation, ASTRO "honors individuals who have significantly added to the field of radiation oncology in the areas of research, education, patient care or service and leadership. Designees also have been an active or emeritus member of ASTRO for at least 15 years, giving the equivalent of 10 years of service to ASTRO through committee service and similar activities. With the addition of the 2016 class, a total of 269 ASTRO members have received the FASTRO designation since the inception of the award in 2006." This is a prestigious designation that few people hold. Laura is the only Canadian receiving this award in 2016.
Laura is a Professor at UTDRO and a Radiation Oncologist at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre. She is an internationally recognized leader in hepatobiliary and liver metastases radiation therapy and in the use of advanced radiation technologies, including stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) and image guided radiation therapy (IGRT). At ASTRO, Laura is a past chair and vice-chair of the education council. She is also a past chair and sat on the organziing committee for ASTRO's state of the art meeting on IGRT, IMRT, SBRT.
