Welcome to the Fall 2014 edition of UT DRO News! As we prepare to bid farewell to another successful year at UT DRO, let’s take a moment to celebrate the many teams and individuals who have contributed to the success of UT DRO.
This year has been a banner year for research at UT DRO. Some of the highlights include the two teams of faculty members from the Princess Margaret and the Odette Cancer Centres, who received funding from the Terry Fox New Frontiers Program. The Princess Margaret team was co-led by Drs. Rob Bristow and Brad Wouters; the Odette Cancer team was led by Dr. Greg Czarnota. There were three groups from within UT DRO who were recipients of our Collaborative Research Seed Funding Program; and Dr. Stan Liu from Odette Cancer Centre received the Prostate Cancer Canada Rising Star Award.
Some of our leaders were celebrated on the global stage this year. As Dr. Mary Gospodarowicz approaches the end of her term as President of UICC, she was recognized by ASTRO with the prestigious ASTRO Gold Medal. Dr. Pam Catton received the American Association for Cancer Education (AACE) Margaret Hay Edwards Achievement Medal, and Dr. Padraig Warde was the recipient of an Honorary Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) Fellowship.
UT DRO also completed a six-month strategic planning process; the result of which is the“RoadMap to 2017” – our Strategic Plan to guide us for the next two years.
These are just a few of the highlights from within UT DRO, but I assure you that there are many more stories of success, innovation, and celebration in our department. My deepest gratitude to all of our faculty members, trainees, and staff for their hard work, commitment, and contributions over this past year.
I wish everyone a wonderfully enjoyable and safe holiday season; and a happy and healthy 2015!
Dr. Fei-Fei Liu, UT DRO Chair
