The Department of Radiation Oncology at the University of Toronto (UTDRO) has issued a Call for Applications for a key leadership role within the department: the Director of Equity, Inclusion and Professionalism.
UTDRO has a long standing commitment to equity, inclusion, diversity, respect, and civility within the department and its programs. As one of the first departments in the Faculty of Medicine to create a dedicated office and role for equity, UTDRO is committed to continuously improving the environment and culture within the department.
Dr. Charles Catton has served two terms as the Director of Equity, Professionalism and Social Responsibility and has been a champion within the department and a voice for our students and trainees. During his tenure there were many incidents around the world that continue to be causes for concern and UTDRO issued a revised Statement of Equity and Solidarity while at the same time continuing to implement changes within our programs and operations based on the recommendations of the UTDRO Respect and Civility Working Group (read the recommendations here).
UTDRO has taken this opportunity to revisit its commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, respect, and civility through a review of the current job description and mandate. After broad consultation, the role has been revised from the Director of Equity, Professionalism and Social Responsibility to the Director of Equity, Inclusion and Professionalism.
The Director of Equity, Inclusion, and Professionalism is responsible for the development and maintenance of an inclusive learning environment with a culture of respect, civility, professionalism, and diversity within the Department of Radiation Oncology at the University of Toronto.
