We are delighted to announce that effective February 1, 2021, Dr. Eileen Rakovitch, current Director of Clinical Affairs, will be assuming the role of Vice Chair, Clinical Affairs, from Dr. Shun Wong. The Vice Chair, Clinical Affairs is a crucial leadership role within UTDRO that oversees the Clinical Affairs portfolio, which includes Academic Promotions, Appointments, and Continuing Appointment Reviews.
Dr. Rakovitch is a Professor and Scientist in the Department of Radiation Oncology at the University of Toronto, and a Senior Scientist at the Institute for Clinical Evaluative Sciences. She is the L.C. Campbell Chair in Breast Cancer Research at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, the Head of the Breast program at Sunnybrook, as well as the Medical Director of the Louise Temerty Breast Cancer Centre. Dr. Rakovitch is also the co-chair of the Canadian Clinical Trials Group Breast Cancer Executive, providing leadership and oversight on the conduct of high impact clinical trials for patients with breast cancer. She is widely known for her dedication to the mentoring of students, residents, fellows and young radiation oncologists across our communities.
We'd also like to express our deep gratitude to Dr. Shun Wong for his immense contributions to UTDRO. As Vice Chair for 17 years, Dr. Wong was a key partner in advancing the mission of the University Department including supporting the development of our junior faculty, engaging all disciplines in the academic appointment process, and successfully shepherding countless promotions of our colleagues. Our 100% promotional success rate is in no small part attributed to Shun’s attentive support of our faculty through this important process. As previous Chief of the Odette Cancer Centre, he was also a strong advocate in promoting professionalism within both the university and clinical departments. We are deeply grateful for Shun’s invaluable contributions, and for his many years of unwavering commitment to UTDRO.
