Biography

A little about myself, I have always wanted to do something in the medical field and what really got me more interested in medicine was a show called House M.D. Ever since then, my goal was to get into medicine and I’m glad to say that I was able to live up to my childhood dreams! In my spare time, I love to play as much soccer as possible, to the point where, as a kid, I wanted to become a professional soccer player. I’ve won many awards in soccer but the award that I’m most proud of is winning the Edward Mallinckrodt Award of Excellence in Nuclear Medicine. My plans for the future is to do a master’s degree and other certificates to help improve my “nuclear medicine profile” so that I can work my way up the administrative ladder to become a nuclear medicine manager or a director of diagnostic/medical imaging.

What and where did you study before joining MRS?

I was accepted to the General Arts and Science program at Brock University and then I made the switch over to Community Health once I realized that I wanted to do something in the medical field. Shortly after, I was told about Michener and I investigated it further, I liked what I saw, and I made the switch over.

Where is your clinical placement?

I did my clinical placement in Kitchener, Ontario and I rotated between St. Mary’s General Hospital and Grand River Hospital.

What attracted you to the MRS program?

What attracted me to the MRS program was the fact that there was a clinical placement component within the curriculum as well as, having a degree in Medical Radiation Sciences from the University of Toronto.

How is MRS different from your previous university experience?

What is different is the fact that there is more of a balance between theory and practise which is great because you’re able to apply what you learned which I didn’t get to do often in my previous university.

Once you decided to pursue this field, why did you choose to study with us?

Well first off, this was the only program in Ontario for my field however, the Michener Institute holds an astounding reputation for its ability to produce amazing students who excel in their field as well as, being able to help these students find a job or at least make them a great candidate.

What do you like best about the program?

Without repeating myself too much, I honestly loved the fact that I was able to apply what I have learned in a laboratory setting and the clinical placement at the end of the program. I also liked the fact that my professors were great in teaching the material to us, giving us clinical advice, and being so approachable. I can honestly go on about what I like but to keep it short and sweet, there wasn’t a time where I was unhappy within my program or at Michener.

What are your plans for after graduation?

After graduating, I hoping to get a job right away and start working in my field. I would also like to go back to school and do a master’s program and do other certificates to improve myself as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist.

Are you involved in extracurricular activities (clubs/sports) at U of T or Michener?

I’m not currently involved in any extracurricular activities unfortunately. However, I was the Vice President of Administration for the Medical Radiation Student Society at the University of Toronto/ Michener, I was a Student Union representative for my class at Michener, I was on many intramurals teams throughout my time at Michener, and I also participated in Shadow Dance Club at the University of Toronto.

What advice do you have for prospective students who are considering the program/profession?

Michener is well regarded throughout Canada and if you want to stay in this profession then this is the place you want to be. They get you prepared for what you’ll face out in the real world and the clinical placement helps to solidify your knowledge and helps you become a better Medical Radiation Technologist. The faculty here are amazing and very knowledgeable, they do everything in their power to help you succeed.
