Gregory Czarnota, UT DRO professor, and chief of radiation oncology at Odette Cancer Centre, has invented a novel way for women with breast cancer to find out if chemotherapy is working. His invention, WaveCheck, uses ultrasound to see how the tumour is responding to chemotherapy. This helps doctors tailor treatment for women with breast cancer, based on the feedback they receive from WaveCheck, and increase the chances of tumours reacting to treatment.
As Dr. Czarnota explains in a CTV News interview, WaveCheck is currently going through clinical evaluations. The research team is now applying for funding, and has launched a $96,987 crowd-funding campaign through Indiegogo to continue this research in the GTA and at cancer centres in the US.
Our congratulations to Dr. Czarnota on this innovation. We wish him the best in his fundraising efforts. You can support WaveCheck through Indiegogo until December 4, 2013.
