My Research – Applications (MRA)
As of June 4, 2013, My Research – Applications (MRA) replaced the paper-based version of the University’s RIS application attachment form (aka “Blue Form”), and only applies to applications submitted through the University of Toronto.
My Research – Applications replaced the paper based RIS Application Attachment form (aka Blue Form). In addition to reducing the time consumed in gathering internal approval signatures, the MRA will provide:
Improvements in accuracy and reliability of data
Improved timeliness of processing
Easy document retention and retrieval for all users
Increased staff productivity
Significantly decreased use of paper
System access is controlled by your ESS/MROL/AMS username and password. In advance of submission of a research application, faculty members are encouraged to login to the system to ensure that your username and password access is up to date. MRA may be accessed through the VPRI RAISE website (and soon also via My Research On Line, Campus Business Connect).
If you do not know your username and password or experience difficulties with your login, please contact the RAISE help desk.
The RAISE helpdesk will be staffed Monday to Friday 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., with extended hours prior to major deadlines:

Canadian Cancer Society Quality of Life Research Grants
The Canadian Cancer Society’s Quality of Life Grants online application form is now available. Program and application information can be found via the Canadian Cancer Society Research Institute (CCSRI) website at www.cancer.ca/research.
Quality of Life Grants
These grants have been created to support quality of life cancer research that has the potential to make a significant impact on the burden of disease in patients, survivors and caregivers. These grants are intended to explore psychosocial, survivorship, supportive care and end-of-life issues, research gaps, needs and opportunities, or models for survivorship care. The grants are meant to accelerate and focus the knowledge gained from scientific findings, in the short or long term, into outcomes that will result in the reduced burden or enhanced quality of life for cancer patients in Canada and elsewhere. Budgets awarded will not exceed $300,000 over 2 or 3 years.
LOI deadline: July 1, 2013
Full application deadline: November 1, 2013 (Note that only successful LOI applicants will be invited to submit full proposals)
Grant submissions
All applications must be submitted through the online application system (EGrAMS) by 5p.m. EST on the deadline date. Submissions will not be accepted beyond these times.
Changes to NSERC Discovery Grant
If you are planning to apply to NSERC’s Discovery Grant program this year, please take note of the following significant changes:
For this year’s Discovery Grant competition, applicants must register and complete:
Notice of Intent (NOI) on the Government of Canada’s new Research Portal and,
NSERC version of the Canadian Common CV (CCV).
The completed NOI (linked to your CCV) must be received electronically at NSERC by 8:00 p.m. (ET) on August 1, 2013. NSERC has provided instructions on how to “link” the CCV and the NOI. NSERC will not permit late applications or changes to the NOI past the August 1st deadline.
NSERC is not using their electronic application Forms 100 and 180 for the Discovery Grant program any longer and will not accept them as an alternative to completing the NOI on the Research Portal and the CCV.
The full application for NSERC’s November 1st deadline is also to be done on the new Reserach Portal (rather than Form 101).
Recommendations:
Review the information on NSERC’s website describing the use of these systems by clicking onGovernment of Canada’s new Research Portal. This link describes what you need to do.
Given that both the application and CCV systems are different from what you may be used to, register and begin completing the NOI and the CCV as soon as possible. In the case of the CCV, NSERC Personal Data Form (100) cannot be imported so you will need to invest some time to input your CV data into the CCV system.
Ideally, you do not want to leave any of this to within a day or two of the August 1st deadline, particularly if you are using these systems for the first time.
Both the Research Portal and CCV offer technical support to assist with any problems you encounter and it’s best to access these resources (should you need them) over the next number of weeks rather than in the final few days before the NOI deadline.
Additional information about using the Research Portal and the CCV for the Discovery Grant competition can be found on NSERC’s website at:
