Dr. Alex Vitkin awarded the Michael S. Patterson Publication Impact Prize in Medical Physics for 2017

We would like to congratulate Dr. Alex Vitkin on being awarded the Michael S. Patterson Publication Impact Prize in Medical Physics for 2017 for his scintific paper entitled “Speckle variance detection of microvasculature using swept-source optical coherence tomography” (OPTICS LETTERS Volume: 33 Issue: 13 Pages: 1530-1532 Published: JUL 1 2008.). This prize is awarded for a scientific paper written by a Canadian Organization of Medical Physicists (COMP) member that has had a tremendous impact on the field of medical physics. Through this influential paper, Dr Vitkin and his co-authors made a novel and major contribution to medical physics by devising a sensitive optical method for the measurement of blood flow in the microvasculature. They also demonstrated its successful application in an animal tumour model as blood vessels responded to photodynamic therapy.
