Congratulations to our new UT DRO Chair, Dr. Fei-Fei Liu!

Re: Appointment of Professor Fei-Fei Liu as Chair, Department of Radiation Oncology

I am delighted to announce that the Academic Board has approved the appointment of Professor Fei-Fei Liu as Chair of the Department of Radiation Oncology for a five year term commencing July 1, 2012.

Dr. Liu is a Professor in the Department of Radiation Oncology, with cross-appointments in the Departments of Medical Biophysics and Otolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgery. She holds appointments at Princess Margaret Hospital and at the Ontario Cancer Institute, and is the Dr. Mariano Elia Chair in Head & Neck Oncology. Professor Liu is a member of the Advisory Committee on Research for the Canadian Cancer Society Research Institute and has co-led Workshops on Translational Cancer Research at the US National Cancer Institute.

A clinician scientist involved in high-impact translational research programs in head and neck, and breast cancers, Professor Liu has published in leading journals and has established an impressive research program focused on developing novel cancer therapeutics and cancer biomarkers which can guide clinical management. Her research has continuously received peer-reviewed research funding from CIHR, Canadian Cancer Society Research Institute, Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, and the Ontario Institute for Cancer Research.

Professor Liu is the recipient of several awards and honours including the Israel Cancer Research Fund
Women of Action 2012. She will be the Gordon Richards Lecturer at the 2012 Canadian Association of Radiation Oncology Conference.

Fei-Fei Liu graduated from medical school at the University of Toronto, where she subsequently trained and obtained her Fellowships in both Internal Medicine, and Radiation Oncology. After a Fellowship at Stanford University Medical Center, Dr. Liu joined the Department of Radiation Oncology at the Princess Margaret Hospital, and University of Toronto’s Faculty of Medicine.
