Claire McCann, assistant professor at UT DRO, has been appointed as the Medical Director of Clinical Research/Trials at Sunnybrook’s Odette Cancer Centre.
Claire is a board certified physicist at the Odette Cancer Centre. She graduated from the University of Toronto with a B.A.Sc. in 2000 from the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering. She completed her Master’s degree with the Institute of Biomaterials and Biomedical Engineering, Clinical Engineering Program in 2002 and her Ph.D. in 2007 from the University of Toronto, Department of Medical Biophysics. Claire completed a medical physics residency program at Princess Margaret Hospital with the Department of Radiation Oncology, University of Toronto in 2009. Her research interests include developing image guided, minimally invasive, ablative therapies including thermal ablation and hyperthermia for radiosensitization, as well as treatment planning platforms for thermal therapy applications. She has been actively involved in phase I and II clinical trials testing a novel radiofrequency ablation device that she developed during her PhD for thermal ablation of solid tumours of the liver and kidney.
In her new role effective October 2013, Claire will be working towards building trials capacity at Odette Cancer Centre as well as serving as a liaison to Pathology, Radiology and Pharmacy to ensure costing and clinical trials run smoothly. She will be a liaison to OICR-HICT and other trials infrastructure agencies.
