Chevonne Liu (Chatham, Ontario)
Radiological Technology, Class of 2020

Biography
My name is Chevonne Liu and I am a graduate from Western University. I grew up in Chatham, ON before moving to London, ON for my undergrad. I love painting, playing board games, and cooking during my free time. I am a huge fan of watching movies and drinking bubble tea as well as finding cute cafes to study in!
What and where did you study before joining MRS?
I did a double major in health sciences and psychology at Western University.
What attracted you to the MRS program?
I truly believe that imaging is the future. We will always need imaging in the health care field and I don’t foresee imaging to be replaced by technology. This profession is growing and there are so many opportunities for us!
How is MRS different from your previous university experience?
The much smaller classroom size compared to university classes mean you get the proper time and attention from the professors here to fully learn the material. They always make time for you to answer your questions fully and thoughtfully without rushing. They really care about your learning experience and future.
Once you decided to pursue this field, why did you choose to study with us?
Michener is known for being the most prestigious school for the MRS field. I have heard this from others and after 2 years at Michener, I can definitely understand why!
What do you like best about the program?
Being able to have clinical practice in the first year of the program is incredible! It’s not just purely didactic learning until you finish all the courses before starting placement.
What is your favourite MRS memory/accomplishment so far?
My favourite memory and accomplishment thus far is helping to set up the 2019 semi-formal for the MRS program and seeing so many students, including my friends in the program attend the dance! It was a massive success!
What is your favourite spot on or near campus?
Definitely Schatz Lounge. A really nice view in addition to comfy couches. Perfect for studying or socializing.
How is the workload? Do you have time to get involved in campus life, sports, clubs or to work part-time?
It can be really busy during the semester with the school work, but I found the time to be involved in soccer intramurals, a dance club at U of T, and signed up as the administrative executive of the Medical Radiation Sciences Society (MRSS). This summer semester, I am volunteering at UHN and have even got a part-time job!
Where is your clinical placement? What is it like?
My clinical placement is Toronto Western and Toronto General Hospital. Placement is the most exciting part of the program. I never get bored and every day I learn something new. I like that these aren’t trauma hospitals so I don’t have the added stress of traumatic emergencies so I can spend my time perfecting how to image instead.
What are your plans for after graduation?
I plan to either work at UHN as an X-ray technologist or move to London or Waterloo region to get a job as a tech there.
What advice do you have for prospective students who are considering the program/profession?
Since there are multiple MRS programs offered at different institutes/colleges, I recommend considering which region you want to work in after graduating. This is because many clinical sites tend to hire students after graduating and when they’ve written their certification exam. Since I have always wanted to work in Toronto, I picked Michener.
