"The Cover Art of the Red Journal: A Reflection on the Creativity of the Radiation Oncology Team"
Dr. Anthony Zietman, MD FASTRO, Editor-in-Chief of Red Journal, joins us as our Research Day 2021 Keynote address. His talk about the diverse, inspirational stories of Red Journal cover art creators is not to be missed!
For the last decade the Red Journal has featured on its cover the art of members of the radiation oncology team. The goal was to present the creativity and the humanity of all members of the care team be they full professors or residents, academics or in the community, physicians or physicists, nurses or researchers.
Over the years we have collected an enormous gallery of very diverse art that reflect our sensitivities and our backgrounds. Behind many of these sumptuous works of art are often even more compelling personal stories. This collection truly reveals our caregivers at their inspiring best.
About Dr. Zietman
Dr. Zietman received his undergraduate training at Oxford University in the UK and then went to medical school at the Middlesex Hospital, London University graduating in 1983. After residencies in internal medicine and clinical oncology he moved to the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, USA for a fellowship in radiation biology. Since joining the staff of the MGH he has authored over 200 original articles, reviews, and editorials on many aspects of GU cancer.
His particular research interests are in the specific roles of active surveillance, brachytherapy, hormone therapy, and proton beam therapy in the treatment of prostate cancer. He also has a long-standing interest in the organ-sparing management of bladder cancer. More recently he has been writing and speaking about evidence development in oncology and the relationship between economy and culture on the one hand and the practice of radiation oncology on the other.
He is currently the Professor of Radiation Oncology at Harvard Medical School and is past-President and Chair of ASTRO. He has a deep interest in medical education and serves as a program director for the Harvard Radiation Oncology Residency Program and has been a Trustee of the American Board of Radiology. Since 2011, has been the Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Radiation Oncology Biology Physics helping to chart its way from traditional scientific journal to a journal of the future. In 2016 he won the ASTRO Gold Medal for his achievements.
