Alexander Dhaliwal
Alex is thrilled to be joining the radiation oncology program in Toronto. Born in St. Catharines, he completed his Bachelor's in Integrated Science with minors in physics, mathematics, and biochemistry at McMaster University, so he feels at home both talking shop with the physicists as well as geeking out with the physiologists. He studied medicine at the University of Toronto through their MD–PhD program. He completed his PhD in the Department of Medical Biophysics, wherein he studied cancer nanomedicine; specifically, he explored how focused ultrasound can be used to augment the delivery of chemotherapeutics and contrast agents loaded into nanoparticles and microbubbles. Balancing agent design, molecular imaging, radiopharmaceuticals, and machine learning image processing, he is eager to leverage these skills to continue this work in translational medicine during his residency. Assuming he continues his geographic trajectory around Lake Ontario, he will eventually end up practicing medicine in Oshawa.
When he’s not nerding out about oncology, he loves catching live music around the city (or playing at an open mic), riffing on recipes off the New York Times food app, or losing to friends at a new board game. As he joins the UTDRO family, he hopes to engage meaningfully in mentorship, science, and the world-class oncology care present in Toronto. Alex can't wait to meet the rest of the team and make the most of his residency experience!
Jane Jomy
Born and raised in Mississauga, Ontario, Jane is a daughter of first-generation immigrants. She completed her undergraduate degree in Health Sciences at McMaster University, during which she recruited patients for multicentre clinical trials. Jane went on to become a clinical epidemiologist, with a Master’s degree in Health Research Methodology from McMaster.
Jane then moved to Toronto for medical school, where she was elected by her peers to serve as Class President for four consecutive years. Through her clinical training and a summer studentship in the Princess Margaret Radiation Medicine Program, she became drawn to Radiation Oncology: a field that uniquely bridges scientific innovation with meaningful patient relationships. Jane is honoured to support patients in their cancer journeys as an incoming UTDRO resident.
Outside of medicine, Jane enjoys all things fitness – if not at the hospital, you can likely find her at Sweat and Tonic! She is also a long-distance runner and is hopeful to start a run club with her new co-residents.
Valerie Liu
Valerie completed her undergraduate degree in Health Sciences at McMaster University before completing medical school at the University of Toronto.
She has a strong interest in working with vulnerable populations and, throughout medical school, was involved in initiatives such as COVID vaccination campaigns, a free healthcare clinic, and patient support groups. She became drawn to oncology for the meaningful longitudinal relationships with patients, and to Radiation Oncology for its role in offering patients a sense of agency and control during difficult stages of illness, particularly when they are no longer candidates for systemic therapy or surgery.
Outside of medicine, Valerie enjoys playing music, attending classical concerts, baking, reading, and exploring new places.
Cecilia Tran
Cecilia Tran is excited to join the exceptional Radiation Oncology resident group at the University of Toronto. She grew up in Vaughan, Ontario, completed her undergraduate studies in Chemical & Biomedical Engineering at McMaster University, and then moved to Ottawa to attend medical school.
Outside of medicine, Cecilia enjoys reading, with historical fiction being one of her favourite genres, though she is always happy to receive book recommendations. She also loves cooking and exploring new foods and is looking forward to taking full advantage of Toronto’s vibrant and diverse culinary scene. She is always eager to hear recommendations for great places to eat.
Yu Fan (Peter) Zeng
Peter is joining the UofT Radiation Oncology program following completing the MD/PhD program at Western University. He is passionate about advancing patient care through clinical care and research. He is thrilled to be continuing his Oncology training in Toronto.
Outside of the clinic and lab, Peter is an avid runner, sushi fanatic, and zip-line enthusiast. He is incredibly excited to meet everyone and begin this next chapter!
Aued Alanazi
Aued was born and raised in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and completed his medical education at King Saudi University, where his interest in oncology, specifically pediatric neuro-oncology, really took shape. He went on to start his radiation oncology residency at King Fahad Medical City, which is one of the biggest and most advanced radiation centers in the Middle East.
When not focused on fighting cancer, he loves reading manga, watching documentaries, catching the occasional Real Madrid match, and tuning into Saturday MMA. He’s very excited to join the University of Toronto Department of Radiation Oncology and looks forward to learning from his colleagues and making some great friends along the way.
