UTDRO welcomes new radiation oncology trainees

Minha Lee

UTDRO welcomes six new trainees to its family. This new group consists of radiation oncology residents. Please join us in welcoming our new trainees.

Abeer Alsuwailem

Abeer was born and raised in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. She completed her MBBS at King Saud University in 2017. She came to Toronto to enhance her clinical and research skills in the field of radiation oncology and she is hoping to share her knowledge afterwards with other parts of the world that are not as fortunate.

She enjoys live music, outdoor activities and anything that keeps her adrenaline pumping. She is excited to explore Toronto and to hit the slopes.

adrian Cozma

Adrian is a life-long University of Toronto student. He completed an undergraduate degree in Nutritional Sciences and Human Biology (Health and Disease) and a graduate degree in Clinical Nutrition and Public Health Policy. During medical school, he developed an interest in genitourinary oncology and medical education, which he hopes to pursue further throughout residency. Outside of medicine, he enjoys exploring Toronto’s diverse food culture, traveling, and playing tennis. He is also always happy to chat about the Raptors and all things basketball.

John Hudson

John grew up in the small town of Midland, Ontario and carries with him an open-friendliness that is common to that upbringing. He studied Engineering Physics at McMaster University and continued his academic pursuits at the PhD and post-doctoral level in Medical Biophysics at the University of Toronto. His research interests are broad and include developing medical imaging (MRI, CT and Ultrasound) methods to monitor early treatment response and applications of high-intensity focused ultrasound. He also teaches a resident level ultrasound physics course for the Department of Medical Imaging. Beyond school and academics, John fills his spare time chasing after two young children and racing double-handed sailboats (i14s) internationally. He is thrilled to start his residency training in radiation oncology at UofT!

Lama Khoja

Lama Khoja is originally from Makkah, Saudi Arabia. She has completed her Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery in 2017 from Alfaisal University in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. She has then worked as a trainee at King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center’s Radiation Oncology Department. She recently moved to Toronto and is looking forward to starting her Radiation Oncology Residency program. In her free time, Lama enjoys drawing, painting and traveling.

Minha Lee

Minha completed her undergraduate studies in Health Sciences at McMaster University. She returned to her hometown of Toronto for her medical studies, and is thrilled to be staying to join UTDRO. Her research interests lie in the applications of mathematical optimization and machine learning in healthcare and radiation oncology, particularly treatment planning optimization and automation. Outside of medicine, she enjoys hiking, playing the piano, and scoping out new music and games to expand her vinyl and board game collections.

Indu Voruganti

I am originally from Ontario. My curious personality and love of liberal arts education led to me venture to the United States to pursue my post-secondary studies. I earned my undergraduate degree in Biology with a focus on Physiology and Biotechnology at Brown University in Providence, RI, and explored research in synthetic biology and tissue engineering. I also encountered Narrative Medicine, a discipline aimed at fortifying clinical practice with narrative competence to promote humanistic, patient-centred care. To explore this further, I earned a Master of Science degree in Narrative Medicine at Columbia University in New York City. I returned to Brown for medical school, where I developed a strong interest in oncology and medical education through various research opportunities. During my oncology electives in the US and Canada, I was excited by novel innovations and inspired by mentors who showed me both the art and science of Radiation Oncology. I am thrilled to be joining the Department of Radiation Oncology at Toronto, and hope to make meaningful contributions to patient care, research and education. Outside of medicine, I enjoy singing Western Classical and Indian Classical Carnatic music, exploring art museums and watching documentary films with friends. I am looking forward to the journey ahead!
